Writing in the Technical Profession
AutoCAD experience in Writing in the Technical Profession class. The group project was to find and solve a problem on campus. Our team presented a solution for insufficient parking by designing a parking ramp. For this group project, my role was to use my civil engineering skills in AutoCAD to design a parking ramp. I utilized data to choose the location of the parking ramp and worked with some feedback from my group for the positioning of lights, stairwells, dimensions, and other important items such as the elevator. I included all of the different aspects, angles, and features as shown below. Other members of the team consisted of Seth Roedocker and Jack Roers who helped compile the data to write the project proposal.
The process I used was first to do field research of existing parking ramps in Fargo. Then I researched online to find examples of parking ramp designs and regulations. From there I utilized my AutoCAD skills to design each piece of the parking ramp project for the group. My key takeaways from this project were working as a team to complete a design from start to finish with a small group. I also gained valuable experience in making a group presentation.
